Enhancing Positional Accuracy and Trust in Slovenia’s Authoritative Cadastral Data

Source: EuroGeographics
The Surveying and Mapping Authority of Slovenia (GURS) initiated a nationwide project to enhance the positional accuracy of the Cadastral Index Map (ZKP), ensuring that it reflects uniform, topologically correct spatial data for land administration. Originally compiled in the early 19th century, the cadastral datasets were misaligned with modern coordinate systems, limiting their utility in contemporary applications such as spatial planning, construction, and real estate management. The improvement process involved supplementing the Land Cadastre Plan (ZKN) with accurate land cover points that received precise eastern and northern coordinates. This created a consistent graphical layer across Slovenia, forming the first uniform cadastral dataset of its kind. The project significantly improves data integrity and usability for diverse national and municipal land administration purposes.
