Enhancing NFL Game Broadcasts with 3D Laser Scanning for Virtual Fan Integration

TruePoint was tasked with using 3D laser scanning technology to capture the existing conditions of over a dozen NFL stadiums. This data would enable Fox Sports to digitally insert virtual fans into broadcasts during the COVID-19 pandemic when fan attendance was restricted. By accurately capturing the spatial layout of the stadiums, TruePoint provided the necessary data for Fox Sports to recreate a live game experience using Unreal Engine, complete with virtual fans and artificial crowd noise. The 3D scans included all critical stadium elements, ensuring a seamless and realistic integration of virtual elements into the broadcast.
