    Project Details

    Deforestation poses a significant environmental threat, exacerbating climate change and biodiversity loss. To effectively monitor forest loss, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology has emerged as a valuable tool due to its ability to capture imagery regardless of weather conditions. However, traditional SAR methods suffered from low resolutions, hindering the detection of small-scale forest disturbances, which are major contributors to total forest loss. The availability of high-resolution SAR satellites from commercial providers, such as Capella Space, offers a breakthrough in forest monitoring. These satellites enable researchers to study deforestation at the centimeter scale, providing more accurate and detailed information on land cover even in cloudy or dark conditions.
