Enhancing District Heating Efficiency through GIS Cloud Technology: A Case Study of Cluj-Napoca, Romania

Source: GIS Cloud
The project aimed to modernize the district heating infrastructure in Cluj-Napoca, addressing inefficiencies caused by widespread disconnection from the system. Leveraging GIS Cloud technology, the initiative developed an interactive web-based map to provide Cluj-Napoca residents and stakeholders with an intuitive tool for managing district heating systems.
The project involved collecting comprehensive data about the heating network, including the exact location of power plants, pipeline specifications, insulation materials, water temperature readings, and emergency contacts. After compiling the data, a graphical database was processed in ArcGIS, preserving complex symbologies and ensuring accuracy.
The dataset was then uploaded to the GIS Cloud platform, enabling real-time updates, easy accessibility, and data visualization through a user-friendly map interface. Residents could quickly identify their heating station, access maintenance information, and resolve service interruptions by contacting relevant authorities.
This initiative also equipped the Autonomous Administration for District Heating (AADH) with centralized tools for infrastructure monitoring, real-time data updates, and operational efficiency enhancements.
