    Project Details

    The Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying (BEV) has expanded the Austrian Positioning Service (APOS) into a robust real-time kinematic (RTK) system, delivering centimeter-level positioning accuracy across Austria. With 37 GNSS reference stations and integration of border stations, APOS provides homogeneous 3D coordinates in ETRS89. Initially focused on agriculture, the service now enables precision farming by supporting automatic steering systems in tractors and agricultural machines. Correction signals are transmitted via mobile internet, delivering lane accuracy of approximately 2 cm, which ensures optimal seed placement, reduced overlaps, and fuel savings. In partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism, the RTK correction signal is offered free to farmers.
