The Moldova Government, in response to Moldova's energy crisis causing rampant deforestation, partnered with LiveEO, supported by the EU, to combat illegal logging using satellite imagery analysis. LiveEO's web app provided monthly monitoring reports to the government, aiding data-driven responses to environmental impacts. The crisis, driven by escalating energy prices, led to increased reliance on firewood, exacerbating deforestation. LiveEO's solution detected deforestation instances and provided actionable insights. Through subsidized firewood and grid linkage efforts, the project aimed to mitigate the crisis' effects while aligning with EU sustainability standards.
