The Perito Moreno glacier, situated in Argentina, stands as a prominent natural attraction, drawing tourists worldwide. Its surface has been subject to exploration by scientists and adventurers since the 19th century. However, the glacier's interior presents hazards that preclude on-foot exploration. In 2017, a research initiative led by the Italian La Venta Esplorazioni Geografiche and the French Spélé’Ice associations embarked on a study of a cave entrance at the glacier's edge. Among the project's objectives was the recording of information pertinent to future studies on glacial ice melt rates. The other was to investigate the micro-organisms living on the glacier and to map as much of the cave as possible.
