The Swiss Federal Office of Topography (swisstopo), in collaboration with Ubique Innovation AG, developed the swisstopo mobile app to provide free, seamless, and mobile access to Swiss National Maps and federal geodata. Launched in 2020, the app has already surpassed one million downloads and earned the title of ‘Master of Swiss Apps 2021’. It integrates a wide range of map datasets, including national topographic maps, aeronautical maps, aerial photographs, and historical maps, along with additional contextual layers for public transport, hiking trails, cycling routes, snow sports, and aviation information. Beyond static maps, the app offers planning, guidance, and tracking functions, as well as immersive panorama and augmented reality modes for visualization. By making all maps free, ad-free, login-free, and available offline, the app ensures accessibility for the public, professionals, and researchers. Additionally, with the Open Swiss Maps SDK, developers can integrate swisstopo’s datasets into third-party applications, fostering a thriving ecosystem of geospatial innovation and digital services in Switzerland.
