The task was to perform a detailed 3D laser scan of a late 19th-century high-rise building located in Chicago’s Central Loop. This iconic building, constructed in 1883, has undergone numerous changes over the years and requires careful documentation for its renovation. The construction management (CM) firm had specific concerns about potential settlement issues due to new construction and changing transportation infrastructures around the building. Additionally, they needed precise documentation to coordinate the installation of a new sky deck on the roof, which involves complex crane operations. TruePoint’s team conducted a thorough 3D survey of the top three levels of the building (roof, mechanical attic, and top floor) and an additional lower floor.
