    Project Details

The Coastal Plastics project in Freetown, Sierra Leone addresses the pressing issue of plastic pollution affecting coastal communities, notably Kroo Bay, where over 10,000 people reside on floating extensions constructed from plastic waste. With inadequate waste management infrastructure, plastic pollution threatens marine ecosystems and public health. Leveraging satellite imagery analysis and GIS, the project identifies plastic waste accumulation areas, facilitates data-driven decision-making, and designs targeted interventions. Community engagement plays a crucial role in empowering residents and fostering sustainable practices.
