The European External Action Service (EEAS), the diplomatic service of the European Union, relies on EuroRegionalMap, a pan-European harmonised geospatial dataset, for advancing its mandate under the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). Security is a priority in the EU Global Strategy, and in an increasingly complex geopolitical environment, EEAS requires authoritative, trusted, and consistent geospatial information to plan military mobility and coordinate investment programmes. EuroRegionalMap, delivered via the Open Maps for Europe project, provides a coherent and quality-controlled database covering 31 European countries. It integrates official map, cadastral, and land information from European NMCAs through a harmonised production system that ensures data comparability and reliability. For EEAS, this dataset enables situational awareness, defence planning, and operational coordination, reducing the risk of misinterpretation by ensuring that all borders and boundaries reflect the EU’s official stance. The dataset supports both high-level strategic decision-making and on-the-ground operational needs, ranging from general staff planning to infantry-level guidance, thereby bridging the gap between political strategy and tactical field requirements.
