The Alaska Taxable project aimed to modernize the collection, management, and dissemination of municipal tax data across Alaska’s 164 municipalities. Given the complexity and variability of municipal tax codes, as well as Alaska's vast and remote geography, the Office of the State Assessor (OSA) faced significant challenges in gathering and communicating tax information to legislators, businesses, and the public. The project implemented a comprehensive ArcGIS-based solution that streamlined data collection using Survey123 for ArcGIS, reduced dependency on intricate Excel workbooks, and presented the data in an accessible and interactive Esri Story Map called Alaska Taxable 2016. This transformation enhanced the transparency, usability, and reach of the tax data, making it more accessible and understandable to a broader audience.
