    Project Details

A major U.S. energy utility, Georgia Power, partnered with Satelytics to enhance the monitoring and management of lakes and reservoirs within its hydroelectric power network. Leveraging AI-based analysis of high-resolution satellite imagery from Pléiades, the project aimed to safeguard the health of water bodies and surrounding environments. With 16 hydroelectric dams contributing to 1.1 million kWh of the utility's annual electricity output, maintaining the quality of 59,000 surface acres of water and 100,000 acres of surrounding properties is crucial. The Satelytics platform employs advanced algorithms to detect land disturbances, vegetative clearing, and aquatic plant growth, including invasive species like hydrilla, which can severely impact water quality and hydroelectric operations. By utilizing satellite imagery scheduled four times per year, Georgia Power significantly improved field crew efficiency and increased the detection rate of potential threats to water bodies, enhancing overall monitoring program effectiveness.
