The Aeronautical Obstacle Evaluation Mapping System (AOEMS) provides an essential tool for evaluating the impact of proposed constructions on aviation safety. The system consolidates height restriction data from multiple agencies including the Ministry of Defence, Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGLV), Brussels Airport Company, and others, into standardized maps. These maps help determine whether a proposed construction exceeds the permitted height at specific locations near civil and military aviation zones. Using a combination of GIS technology and NGI’s digital terrain models, AOEMS produces 20 detailed GEOTIFF rasters that display height limits in various formats and reference systems (Lambert 2008 and Lambert 72). A global map with the strictest height restrictions is publicly available on geo.be, providing critical information for developers, municipalities, and aviation authorities.
