The All-India Network Project on mariculture, initiated by the Government of India, seeks to leverage open ocean mariculture technologies to unlock the potential of a sustainable blue economy. With a growing global demand to produce 80 million metric tonnes of seafood by 2050, India, as the world's second-largest seafood provider and possessing an extensive 8,000 km coastline, is strategically positioned to seize this opportunity. Indian Council for Agricultural Research - ICAR-CMFRI has been a pioneering force in advancing sea-based mariculture since the 1960s, contributing significantly to sustainable seafood production, job generation, and economic growth.
