    Project Details

Masarang Foundation, an ecological organization with over two decades of reforestation experience, embarked on a transformative project to restore 500 hectares of degraded grasslands, secondary forests, and coastline in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. The initiative aimed to establish a sustainable natural carbon sink while generating food and fuel resources to create a resilient economic foundation for the local community.

Given the challenging terrain and the need for expedited data acquisition, the Foundation partnered with MSDI, a specialized LiDAR services provider. Using the YellowScan Vx15-100 LiDAR system mounted on a DJI Matrice 600 Pro UAV, MSDI conducted detailed topographic and hydrologic surveys over the project area. These scans provided high-resolution 3D maps, enabling the creation of an optimized plantation master plan for reforestation efforts. The project also generated a baseline carbon sequestration model and developed a virtual 3D visualization for donor engagement.

The efficient deployment of cutting-edge technology allowed the Foundation to accelerate the project timeline, ensuring the successful establishment of shrub plantations and optimized resource use.
