    Project Details

Storm Geomatics undertook a comprehensive survey of a 250-meter stretch of the River Aire at Newlay, northwest of Leeds, Yorkshire. It was commissioned as part of the Newlay Remedial Works Project overseen by an Environment Agency, the survey aimed to provide detailed topographic and bathymetric data to inform asset recovery and stabilization efforts following the collapse of Newlay Weir. Utilizing geospatial technologies such as the Trimble SX10 laser scanner and GeoSwath 1 interferometric sonar, the project successfully combined various survey methods to produce accurate 3D and hydraulic models. Despite challenging conditions and a tight timeline, the data collected enabled informed decision-making for effective engineering interventions, ensuring the long-term stability of the river’s infrastructure and flood defenses.
